Loading up Apalia: Episode 1. Season 1 begins soon with a new episode every 2 weeks. Episode 1 will be free with a one time subscription cost for the whole season (consisting of 6 episode's). Apalia is a full 1080p Html5 Web Game, playable in any modern browser. The loading time is around 2 mins and 30 seconds, and we're very proud to show the world what we have managed to do with html5!

I made a sprite/game engine for a top down 2d rpg I wanted to make. Written in a text editor, I used elementary trig for my AI which just moves the monsters towards the player when he's in range. The map is divided into zones 1200x800 pixels wide. There are various spawn points randomly spawned within zones which become spawn points for monsters, decorations, etc. Killing dwarves gives you pickaxes. If you die you lose the pickaxes, and once you have one or more you can cash it in at the mine, which also happens to be the dragon's spawn points. You can cash in 1 pick every 2 seconds while trying to avoid the dragon's fireballs. The player has a few different attacks, the damage of which is determined by the stats, skills, and item modifiers of the player. Hitting monsters with a weapon or spell raises skill, killing a monster awards attributes, and drops a loot chest. Opening the chest awards the player loot tied to the monsters type(magic monster drops mage items, ranger drops bows/arrows/ranger armor, warrior drops melee weapons, heavy armor, etc) There are potions, skilling, healing, recall/marking runestones for quick travel. Recalling from a different map will bring you back to the map and location (x, y coord) where the runestone was marked. I did use DOM for the menu system. It's slower than doing everything within canvas, but it let me use CSS(style and layout) and Jquery(draggable) along with javascript to dynamically populate the menu with icons of items in the player's inventory that changes as the inventory changes. The item shop was an idea where there will be some village outposts randomly placed. When you walk onto a village tile, you can access the trade window where NPCs of the town will generate items to buy/sell. There's a meditation pool that regenerates your health, stamina and mana if you stand on it. Killing harder monsters levels up faster. I was switching over to a tile based background, you can look at the source of this: /Tiles/main.html for ideas but I've been pursuing other interests and not working with HTML5 for a year or more.....
