TV Dashboard Launch Day (September 16, 2011)

They are on 55" matte LCDs, and were designed to be visible from 20+ feet away. It is being displayed through Google Chrome's full-screen mode on OS X Lion (each TV has its own Mac Mini that we can access individually through virtual machines). It is pulling the progress data from our custom in-house CRM. Since this was completely internal, I was able to abuse Webkit and hack it out using HTML5 and CSS3. I also implemented FitText.js ( / ) so that the type automagically scales on-the-fly so it would be accessible to staff from their own browsers. It sort-of, kind-of works on iOS. It does chug along a little bit, but we were pressed for time and I'm still happy with the outcome, and it sure beats Geckoboard or heavily modifying Highcharts. The colors correspond to the brand (CIO/CISO/CFO/HR). You can't see it, but when you reach any of the goals listed, the bar glows a little and an animated PNG of lines replaces the static diagonal lines. Any amount over goal is displayed in yellow, and when you go "over the top" (a certain amount above goal), the entire bar glows, turns yellow and your name is highlighted. The bar at the top highlights the current vertical being displayed (also listed under the city), the current weather in that city, and our local time. My teammates on this project were Andrew Havens (JavaScript, PHP, dealt with my perfectionism regarding FitText.js, dealt with my inability to grasp jQuery), Nathan Brakken (QA, JavaScript, also dealt with my inability to grasp jQuery) and Michael Irey (PHP, database stuffs). I couldn't have done it without them. Thanks to fellow Portlanders and general badasses, Panic, for being one of the only ones with a decently designed dashboard that I could find ( /blog/2010/03/the... ).
